The growing demand for resilient gigabit networks continued to place significant pressure on Germany’s digital infrastructure strategy. As fibre remains the most future-proof, energy-efficient, and capacity-rich medium, ensuring that policy, investment, and deployment models were aligned became an increasingly urgent priority for national and regional stakeholders.
This joint meeting of the Digital Infrastructure Working Group and the Investors Committee, hosted at the Main Tower in Frankfurt, explored the strategic levers required to accelerate fibre expansion across Germany. The session opened with remarks from Vincent Garnier, who framed the discussion around Europe’s need for coordinated regulatory signals, stable investment conditions, and cooperation models capable of sustaining long-term fibre deployment.
The programme examined critical aspects shaping Germany’s fibre landscape: market analyses on current deployment gaps, customer-experience insights highlighting adoption barriers, and emerging wholesale and cooperation concepts designed to strengthen business cases for operators and investors. The discussions further addressed the financial and rating considerations essential for supporting large-scale fibre projects in a competitive funding environment.
A concluding panel debate provided a forward-looking assessment of what it would take for fibre to regain momentum by 2030, emphasising the importance of aligning market incentives, improving investment frameworks, and fostering collaboration across the ecosystem. Attendees gained a clearer understanding of the economic, regulatory, and operational conditions required for a sustainable and scalable fibre future in Germany.
The meeting closed with networking exchanges, reinforcing the value of cross-industry dialogue at a pivotal moment for Germany’s digital transformation.
