Francesco Nonno, President of the FTTH Council Europe, in this interview, warns that the proposed deregulation under the Digital Networks Act could put fibre investments at risk. Eliminating current wholesale access rules would give greater power to legacy incumbents and deter new infrastructure players. In the interview, Nonno stresses there is no clear market justification for such deregulation, which could hinder competition and fibre rollout in countries still dependent on copper or FTTC networks. Instead, the FTTH Council advocates for a clear EU-wide copper switch-off target by 2031–2032, aligning with fibre coverage goals and ensuring a level playing field for all network investors.
