Nearly 60 homes and three businesses have started on-site digging to connect to a fibre network to be installed around the village. The FTTH Council Europe hosted a highly successful workshop with European policy makers in Brussels on 24 June to raise awareness of the issues and challenges surrounding the roll-out of fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) in Europe. Representatives from the European Commission, the European Parliament and National Regulatory Authorities attended this event and discussed the advantages of fibre access networks and how clear and appropriate regulation can help to speed up the deployment of high-speed broadband. | UK Fibrecity to connect one million homes to open access FTTH | ||
Fibrecity Holdings, an i3 Group company, has announced that it intends to build the next Fibrecity networks, which will result in more than one million homes and businesses being connected to its fibre optic network over the next four years – delivering standard speeds of 100Mbps and boosts of up to 1Gbps through the largest fibre to the home initiative in the UK.

| Italian telcos plan €2.5bn investment in FTTH roll-out | ||
Vodafone, Wind and Fastweb, Italy's three main alternative telecommunications operators, unveiled on Friday 7 May their plan to roll out a single fibre access network across the country. The project aims to connect 15 major Italian cities within five years, with an overall investment of nearly EUR 2.5 billion divided among all the public and private players involved. | ||
